Return Warranty
Return & Limited Warranty Policy
Effective Date: August 13, 2026
Limited Warranty Designation — U.S. Customers
The Ashaki Repair Program and the Beyond-Repair Replacement Commitment described in this policy constitute a LIMITED WARRANTY under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 2301–2312. This policy is governed by the laws of the State of California. California customers have additional rights under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, Civil Code §§ 1790–1795.8, including rights with respect to implied warranties that may not be waived or disclaimed. Full warranty terms are available prior to purchase at ashaki.com/return-warranty and upon request at repairs@ashaki.com.
1. Overview
At Ashaki, we make garments to be worn, repaired, and passed down — not replaced. This policy governs standard returns, our limited repair program, the Beyond-Repair Replacement Commitment, and the Legacy Provision. It applies to all Ashaki garments purchased directly from Ashaki through our website or authorized retail partners.
Please read this policy carefully before purchase. By purchasing an Ashaki garment, you agree to the terms set out below.
2. Definitions
The following defined terms are used throughout this policy:
"Serviceable Life" / "Lifetime" means the period during which a garment retains sufficient structural integrity to be repaired and returned to wearable condition, as determined by Ashaki's repair craftspeople in their reasonable judgment. For the avoidance of doubt, "lifetime" as used in Ashaki's advertising refers to the serviceable life of the garment — not the customer's biological lifetime, the lifetime of any third party, or the duration of Ashaki's existence as a business.
"Beyond Repair" means the condition of a garment that Ashaki's repair craftspeople have determined lacks sufficient structural integrity to be restored to a wearable state through available repair techniques.
"Original Purchaser" means the individual who purchased the garment directly from Ashaki and can provide proof of that purchase.
"Covered Repair" means a structural repair that falls within the scope of Ashaki's Repair Program as described in Section 6 and detailed in the Ashaki Repair Program Scope Document.
"Natural Material Aging" means the changes in texture, color, hand, and surface character that occur over time as a result of wearing, laundering, and general use of natural and blended fiber garments. These changes — including softening of fabric hand, color deepening or shifting, increased drape, and surface texture development — are inherent characteristics of Ashaki's materials and are intentional qualities of how Ashaki garments are made. Natural Material Aging is not a manufacturing defect and does not entitle the customer to a repair, return, or replacement under this policy.
3. Standard Returns
3.1 Return Window
Unworn, unwashed garments in their original condition with all tags attached may be returned within thirty (30) days of the delivery date for a full refund to the original payment method, or for store credit at the customer's election.
3.2 Condition Requirements
To be eligible for a return, garments must be:
- Unworn and unwashed
- Free from odors, stains, pet hair, or evidence of use
- In original packaging with all tags and any accompanying materials intact
Garments that do not meet these conditions are not eligible for a standard return and will be returned to the customer at their expense.
3.3 Non-Returnable Items
The following items are not eligible for return or exchange under any circumstances:
- Items marked "Final Sale" at the time of purchase
- Made-to-order and bespoke garments (eligible for defect claims under Section 5 only)
- Gift cards
- Items that have been altered, repaired, or modified by any party other than Ashaki
3.4 Promotional and Sale Purchases
Garments purchased during a promotional sale period (excluding Final Sale items) may be returned within the standard 30-day window for store credit only. Cash refunds are not available for promotional purchases.
3.5 How to Initiate a Return
- Email returns@ashaki.com with your order number and reason for return.
- Ashaki will respond within three (3) business days with a return authorization and, for domestic returns, a prepaid shipping label.
- Ship the garment in its original or equivalent protective packaging within seven (7) days of receiving the return authorization.
- Refunds will be processed within ten (10) business days of Ashaki receiving and inspecting the returned garment.
International Returns: Customers outside the United States are responsible for return shipping costs. Ashaki does not provide prepaid labels for international returns. All customs fees, duties, and taxes associated with international returns are the customer's responsibility.
4. Exchanges
Ashaki offers exchanges for a different size or color of the same style, subject to availability, within the 30-day return window. Exchanges are subject to the same condition requirements as standard returns (Section 3.2). To request an exchange, contact returns@ashaki.com with your order number and the exchange you are seeking. Ashaki will confirm availability before processing.
If the requested exchange item is unavailable, Ashaki will issue store credit for the value of the returned garment.
5. Manufacturing Defects
Ashaki stands behind the quality of every garment it produces. If a garment contains a defect in materials or workmanship that was present at the time of purchase, Ashaki will repair or replace it at no charge, regardless of when the defect is discovered during the garment's serviceable life.
A manufacturing defect is a flaw attributable to Ashaki's production process. It does not include damage resulting from normal wear, laundering, misuse, or accidental damage.
To submit a defect claim, contact repairs@ashaki.com with your order number, a description of the defect, and photographs. Ashaki will assess the claim and respond within five (5) business days.
6. The Ashaki Repair Program (Limited Warranty)
Ashaki will perform structural repairs on garments that fall within the scope of the Repair Program, free of charge, for the serviceable life of the garment. This is a limited commitment: it covers specific types of structural repair and excludes the categories described in Section 6.2.
A complete description of what is and is not covered — with specific examples — is set out in the Ashaki Repair Program Scope Document, which should be read alongside this policy.
6.1 What Is Covered
Ashaki will repair the following categories of structural damage to the original garment:
- Seam failures, including open or split seams along original stitch lines
- Lining tears, detachment, or structural breakdown
- Zipper failure or breakage (Ashaki-original zippers only; see Section 6.2(e))
- Button, snap, or closure detachment or failure (original components only)
- Fabric tears or punctures not resulting from misuse, provided sufficient fabric exists for repair
- Re-attachment of structural elements including belt loops, waistbands, and cuffs
- Collar and cuff fraying or structural breakdown
- Hem failures
6.2 What Is Not Covered
The following are excluded from the Ashaki Repair Program:
(a) Damage caused by misuse, neglect, or intentional acts, including burns, cuts, chemical exposure (bleach, solvents, acids, or dyes), mold or mildew resulting from improper storage, or damage caused by animals;
(b) Damage resulting from alterations, repairs, or modifications made by any party other than Ashaki, including resizing or structural modification by a third-party tailor;
(c) Loss or theft of the garment;
(d) Staining of any kind, regardless of cause;
(e) Replacement of components not manufactured or originally supplied by Ashaki, including after-market fasteners, closures, or embellishments added by the customer after purchase;
(f) Cosmetic services, including resizing, dyeing, color restoration, or embellishment (available from Ashaki as a separate paid service);
(g) Moth damage or damage caused by improper storage conditions;
(h) Natural Material Aging and normal cosmetic wear — including softening, color deepening or fading, changes in texture or drape, pilling, and surface abrasion — that do not affect the structural integrity of the garment (see definition in Section 2);
(i) Outbound shipping costs for international repair submissions. Ashaki will return the repaired garment to all customers at no charge.
6.3 Ashaki's Sole Determination
Ashaki retains sole and reasonable discretion to determine whether a garment is eligible for a Covered Repair under this section, and whether the garment remains within its serviceable life, based on documented craft standards applied consistently. Ashaki's assessment is final.
6.4 How to Submit a Repair
- Email repairs@ashaki.com with your order number, a description of the damage, and clear photographs of the affected area.
- Ashaki will review your submission and confirm eligibility within five (5) business days.
- If eligible, Ashaki will issue a prepaid shipping label. A flat shipping contribution of $20.00 (the "Shipping Contribution") is due at the time of submission. The Shipping Contribution is waived in full for repairs that Ashaki determines were caused solely by a manufacturing defect under Section 5. The current amount is published at ashaki.com/repairs and is subject to change; the amount in effect at the time of submission applies.
- Ship the garment to Ashaki in secure packaging within fourteen (14) days of receiving confirmation.
- Ashaki will complete the repair and return the garment within twenty-one (21) business days of receipt, depending on the complexity of the repair. You will be notified by email of any delays.
6.5 Frequency
Ashaki will perform up to four (4) Covered Repairs per garment per calendar year. Customers requiring additional repairs beyond four in a given year may contact repairs@ashaki.com to request an exception; Ashaki retains sole discretion to grant or decline such requests. Ashaki reserves the right to decline any repair request where the volume or pattern of claims for a single garment indicates misuse of the program.
6.6 At-Home Repair Support
Every Ashaki garment ships with a set of replacement buttons and beads matched to the garment. Customers who need additional repair materials or written guidance for a specific issue — such as matching thread, fabric patches, or instructions for a particular seam or closure — may email repairs@ashaki.com to request them at no charge. Video repair guides are in development and will be available at ashaki.com/repairs.
Using Ashaki-supplied materials or following Ashaki-provided repair instructions does not affect a customer's eligibility for a Covered Repair. If a customer attempts a repair using Ashaki-supplied materials and the repair is not successful, the garment remains eligible for submission under Section 6.4.
7. Beyond-Repair Replacement — The 70% Commitment
7.1 Eligibility
When Ashaki's repair craftspeople determine that a garment has reached the end of its serviceable life — meaning it can no longer be restored to a wearable condition through available repair techniques — the Original Purchaser is eligible to purchase a replacement Ashaki garment at 70% off the then-current retail price.
For the avoidance of doubt: this provision entitles the customer to purchase a new garment at a discounted price. It is not a buyback, repurchase, or trade-in. Ashaki does not pay the customer for the returned garment.
7.2 Process
Ashaki's determination that a garment is Beyond Repair will be communicated in writing. The Original Purchaser must:
(a) Return the original garment to Ashaki as a condition of eligibility;
(b) Provide proof of original purchase (order number or receipt); and
(c) Select a replacement garment from Ashaki's current collection of equal or lesser retail value.
7.3 Applicable Discount
The 70% discount is calculated against the then-current retail price of the replacement garment at the time of the replacement purchase. If the original style has been discontinued, the customer may select a comparable style from Ashaki's current collection at Ashaki's reasonable designation. The discount cannot be combined with any other promotional code, discount, or offer.
8. The Legacy Provision
8.1 Heirloom Transfer
Ashaki believes its garments should outlast their first wearers. When an Ashaki garment passes by inheritance upon the death of the Original Purchaser to a family member or designated recipient, the heir may claim the 70% replacement discount described in Section 7, subject to the terms of this section.
8.2 Documentation Requirements
To claim the Legacy Provision, the claimant must submit to Ashaki all of the following:
(a) Proof of the Original Purchaser's death, in the form of a death certificate or equivalent official government documentation;
(b) Evidence of the garment's transfer to the claimant, in the form of: (i) a probated will or court order; (ii) a letter of personal representative or executor; or (iii) a written declaration signed by the claimant under penalty of perjury confirming receipt of the garment as part of the decedent's estate; and
(c) The original garment, physically returned to Ashaki for condition assessment in accordance with Section 7.2.
8.3 Scope and Limitations
The Legacy Provision may be claimed once per garment. It applies to one generational transfer and does not pass again upon the claimant's death or any subsequent change of possession. The Ashaki Repair Program (Section 6) remains available to the heir for the remaining serviceable life of the garment following any Covered Repair. Ashaki reserves the right to request additional reasonable documentation to verify a Legacy Provision claim.
Note on Secondhand and Gifted Garments: The Legacy Provision applies only to garments transferred by inheritance upon the death of the Original Purchaser. Garments gifted during the Original Purchaser's lifetime or purchased through secondary markets are not eligible for the Legacy Provision or the 70% replacement discount unless Ashaki specifically extends those rights in writing at the time of gift or transfer.
9. Program Modifications
Ashaki reserves the right to modify or discontinue the Repair Program, the Beyond-Repair Replacement Commitment, and the Legacy Provision for garments purchased after the effective date of any such modification, upon no fewer than ninety (90) days' advance written notice. Notice will be published at ashaki.com/return-warranty and sent by email to registered customers for whom Ashaki holds a valid email address. The rights of customers who purchased Ashaki garments before the effective date of any modification will not be diminished by that modification.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ASHAKI'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO ANY CUSTOMER UNDER THIS POLICY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY THE CUSTOMER FOR THE AFFECTED GARMENT. ASHAKI SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THIS POLICY OR ANY GARMENT PURCHASED FROM ASHAKI.
California law does not permit the disclaimer or exclusion of implied warranties on consumer goods. Under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, Civil Code §§ 1790–1795.8, Ashaki's implied warranty of merchantability with respect to Ashaki garments sold in California may not be waived or disclaimed. The exclusion of consequential and incidental damages set forth above may also not apply to California customers to the extent prohibited by applicable law, including the Song-Beverly Act and the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Civil Code §§ 1750–1784.
11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
This policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
California Consumer Rights. In addition to the rights provided under this policy and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 2301–2312, California customers have additional rights under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, Civil Code §§ 1790–1795.8, and the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA), Civil Code §§ 1750–1784. Nothing in this policy limits or waives any right that cannot be waived under applicable California law.
Informal Resolution. Before initiating any formal dispute, customers are encouraged to contact Ashaki at repairs@ashaki.com. Ashaki will attempt to resolve disputes informally within thirty (30) days of receiving written notice.
Binding Arbitration. Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to this policy or any Ashaki garment that is not resolved informally shall be resolved by final and binding arbitration administered by JAMS pursuant to its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures, before a single neutral arbitrator. The arbitration shall be conducted in San Francisco County, California. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction. The Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. §§ 1 et seq., governs the interpretation and enforcement of this arbitration agreement.
Small Claims Carve-Out. Either party may bring an individual claim in a California small claims court if the claim falls within that court's jurisdictional limit, without first engaging in informal dispute resolution or arbitration.
Class Action Waiver. All claims must be brought in the parties' individual capacity only, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one party's claims and may not preside over any form of class or representative proceeding.
CLRA Venue. Notwithstanding the arbitration agreement above, any claim brought under the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Civil Code §§ 1750–1784, may be brought in the California superior court for the county in which the transaction occurred or in which the customer resides, at the customer's election, to the extent required by the CLRA.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You also have other rights under California law, which may vary from the rights described in this policy.
